We received pictures from another Scout so I wanted to add those pictures so the Grandparents could check them out. :)

6 Weeks
I can't believe 6 weeks are already done. I thought about those who schedule their homeschool year as 6 weeks on, 1 week off...sounded tempting on Friday!! :) But we are getting in a full schedule as long as we can because holidays will be here before you know it!
We painted C's.
Nathan learned about colors this week. We made green paint from blue and yellow:
We painted C's.
We had a grain sensory bin because we learned about Joseph and his colored coat (he was eventually in charge of food stores..that's where connection came in).
Making a puppet of Joseph and his coat:
Sorting pie filling by color (and wearing the top crust on his head):
Lily was enjoying the fall morning while doing her homework:
No other school pictures but I got some pics off of Brian's phone:
Another Scouts picture....
Brian and Hunter had a Webelos camp out so Hunter got to explore:
Hunter doing Simon Says in the rain the next day. :)
We're staying on track with our studies and I think everyone is doing well. I hope to work in some outside "field trips" as the weather gets more fall-like. :)

Mummy Week
Week 5 done! This week flew by--I can't believe how fast it went. Nathan had school in his tent most days so he was thrilled. We talked about the letter 'T', camping, Abraham and stars. Busy week!
Nathan loves to paint!! He's painting stars here and we later added a tent that turned out pretty darn cute. Impressive crafting this year. :)
Samuel had a good week and I feel like a slacker with his pictures. My supervising teacher's advice was to make him focus and listen for the basics and then just let him play. That's been our plan and he does a ton better with his attitude and participation--but it's hard to get pictures in. He actually colored nicely and willingly this day--kind of a shocker.
Fridays are still exploration days for Samuel so we did some bark rubbings for science. (He's using his left hand in this picture because he had invaluable slime in the other hand.)
Hunter and Lily had a fun, full week. They painted the prettiest Spring pictures while listening to Vivaldi's Spring music.
We FINALLY opened our Ancient Egypt chest that we bought used last year. They had been so anxious to see what's inside. We have learned just a ton about the Ancient Egyptians--very fascinating! We watched Horrible Histories' mummy video and watched a video of Ancient Egpytian Legos build a pyramid. Also, Cleopatra's song by Horrible Histories is a hit here!!
For science this week, we mummified apples with different solutions to see what worked best.
Finally, we built paper bag sukkahs to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.

Week 4
I can barely remember Monday of this past week, it was an eventful week but it had nothing to do with school. I think we accomplished everything.
Nathan learned about Z for zoo and we also did a lot of Noah's Ark activities.
Samuel and I learned about parts of a flower.
I loved this flower I found in my garden--had to get a picture.
Samuel had a great week and I didn't get as many pictures because he kept me hopping but we slowed some things down and spent more time on the couch reading. Things are moving in a better direction! This is a rhyming box I picked up this summer. It's a huge hit!
Hunter and Lily kept busy this week as we started our study of Egypt. This week was all about pyramids and farming.
We learned about Menes uniting Egypt. They dramatized the battle.
Lily (Menes) won. :)
We made a model of a reed boat:
In other news, the Scouts started back up. Samuel decided he wanted to join and he had a great time.
Samuel is hanging his pine cone bird feeder he made at Scouts:
Hunter and Lily had an orthodontist visit this week but they don't have to go back for a year. They were somewhat concerned about this appointment but the video games helped a lot!!

Apples and Picnics
We had Monday off this week for Labor Day but it felt like a full week of school--we accomplished a lot. I have tons of pictures to post. :)
On Sunday, we took a "field trip" to an apple orchard because that was the theme of Nathan's preschool this week:
A big thrill was crossing this creek!
We all were in blue/orange because you were supposed to wear your favorite team's colors (Bears!). It was hot, hot, hot and we cooled off with some apple cider slushies while getting a ride from Bessie, the tractor. Nathan LOVED riding this tractor--his smile could not have been bigger!!
For school, we painted with apples.
We made apple pie play dough.
Painted an apple tree (foot = trunk, hands = leaves and fingerprints = apples):
And we made patterns with our painted apple cut outs. This is his pattern and he's very proud:
Sometimes we watch Blue's Clues on the Kindle after school:
Samuel had an okay week. We are still figuring out our groove with him...
But, this week he worked on sorting piles--read some fun books about sorting this week.
Doing some lines for art:
Making a Seasons book:
Hunter and Lily had a full week! We made a map of the Bible lands--this was really fun and I think we all enjoyed it. MFW curriculum teaches this in a neat way.
For science, we tried burning paper using a magnifying glass and the sun to recreate Archimedes' death ray. The kids enjoyed this and we had a good amount of heat but no burning.
We also crushed wintergreen lifesavers in the dark for science--we did see the spark!
Here they are printing their names using the cuneiform alphabet on sugar cookie "tablets".
Celebrating Rosh Hashanah:
On Saturday, we headed to a park for a picnic for independent homeschoolers. It was HOT but we had a lot of fun. Brian and Nathan spent some time in the sand:
These 2 started a water fight among the children:
Lily is in front (in the brown shirt) running in the water fight--it was hard to get a picture of her because she is a social butterfly!! There was a handful of families--some cancelled, probably due to heat--but no shortage of kids. The kids had a blast and were wet, sandy and tired when we left.
