School is Over

We finished up the school year!!  Man, were we ready.  :)  We are going to do NO SCHOOL for 2 weeks and then start doing some math and reading a few times a week through the summer.  Nothing too long or painful, though.  So, here are the pics we got throughout our last week:

Nathan playing ABC Mouse.  He loves it and it's a great educational game.  Her received a gold star on it the other day and was sooooo excited!

We put our last timeline piece on this week.  We covered creation to Alexander the Great, with some musicians thrown in on the AD side of things.  :)

Samuel working at reading some sentences.  What a sweet smile, huh?  He is working on the Hooked On Phonics app still, as well, and really likes that so we may just continue that in the summer since he doesn't fight it!

Nathan's ABC book all put together:

"I liked spelling.  It was so fun! Math was so hard and I thought cursive was the easiest."

"I liked science because of our experiments.  I also liked a little bit of math."

Poor Samuel was sick on our last day of school.  It seemed to be one of his migraines so he slept a lot and woke up almost back to his old self.

Nathan told me he was going to take a nap so he made a bed for himself using the cat bed and blankets.  Looks comfy, doesn't it?

Scouts ended this week at the scout picnic.  On the right side of the picture, you can see Brian, Hunter and Samuel all up there for graduation.

Finally, a picture from our walk at the arboretum this morning.  We are excited for a long weekend together!!

Almost There

This is the only picture I took this week!  We had a little picnic on Sunday after church since Brian had a Subway gift card burning a hole in his pocket.  :)  The weather turned nice this weekend--hope it stays!

So, this week during school was really just more of the same.  Lily is done with her assigned reading so she is able to pick and choose--she was debating over Peter Pan or Black Beauty but then moved on to a princess book, I think.  :)  She did have to retake a math quiz this week--the horror!  She wasn't thrilled about it but it's best to review before rushing on.  Hunter has been missing quite a bit of his math work, as well, so it's really been a lot of review.  This is why we can't take the whole summer off!! Samuel loves his Hooked on Phonics app that I throw in with his phonics work.  He's making slow and steady progress.  This week we will finish up chapters and lessons but it's really a 2 week vacation before we pick up reading and math a few times a week throughout summer (for all 3 big kids!).  The joy of being homeschooled!  :)

Mother's Day

This week had some gorgeous weather so we started spending a lot more time outside.  We're calling it "recess".  :)  The twins finished their cursive curriculum up so that was exciting for them.  Hunter trashed his book when he was done--he hates cursive and I probably won't have him continue it but Lily enjoys it so she'll start it up again next school year.

Mother's Day had an early start--a sick child up at 2:00 AM.  We decided to skip church since Lily was unsure if her stomach/throat were feeling better or not but we did go shopping for our picnic food and decided to eat indoors--picnic style.  The weather looked rainy and Lily was still so/so so staying in seemed the wisest choice.  Still, it was fun and now I'm enjoying some quiet time to get some things done and just sit with a movie.  :)

2 more weeks of school!

2 Weeks

I am a little behind on blogging so we'll see what I can remember.  We are really winding down the school year and that's the main focus right now!  We will continue reading and math through the summer but not every day!!

Hunter and Lily were copying coins before creating their own coin design in art:

I was sick last week with a cough and cold so some of the reading had to be left for evening.  We read a bit about Archimedes but we're setting it aside and starting a new read aloud next week!

Samuel is working at his handwriting.  I see improvement--maybe not at grade level but progress is being made.  His reading and math are showing progress, as well, but it's slow moving.

Lily doing her last spelling test!!  Since her spelling is finished, she is doing DOUBLE math.  Ha!  She's thrilled.  She's drilling facts using Math Rider and she started Times Tales, along with multiplication review worksheets.  She's working hard to get those facts done before moving on with division.

In other news, Hunter got to take his car to another Pinewood Derby...

and the boys got to launch a rocket they built.

Nathan has been doing schoolwork here and there but, otherwise, he's happy to be done and free!  :)  He is really liking ABC Mouse right now so he's getting some introduction to letters and numbers through that.  This is Nathan with his Leappad and his cousin, Kathryn, hanging out at my parents' house.

Brian had a birthday this week so we celebrated by going to Red Robin and having cake, cards and a present.  It was a fun day for everyone, I think!

Random picture of the whiteboard this week.  A math problem and a heart from Hunter to tell me he loves me.  So sweet.

Totally off topic...hit a garage sale and found this set of dishes for $1.50.  They are so me--minty color with red berries.  Love them!
