Week 5

Another busy week with more appointments but we managed to fit school in!

Sleepyhead school is what this pictures looks like!!  Ha!  We started our unit on Lentil  and found where the book takes place (Ohio).

This is what the other boys were doing while Nathan and I were working together and Lily was doing some work independently:

We had a fun crafty time to help us remember what was created on each of the 7 days:

It's fun to include apps for learning.  Samuel was watching Hunter work on his math game:

A rare moment when Lily was doing work with the rest of us.  This was evening school, I believe.  :)

More Bingo!

Samuel was so excited to beat me at our math game.  There was no way for me to let him win so it was a fair fight!

Nathan's family picture:

We learned about the earth's layers and recreated them with clay.

Samuel spelled!!  He's at the point in Barton where he is spelling with tiles and on paper so that is pretty exciting!

Week 4

Last week was crazy busy with dental, vision and ortho appointments but we managed to get some school done, too!

Samuel completed his 1st Barton reading book!!  Yea!!  He's doing so much better than I thought he would--I'm amazed at how quickly he moved through it.  We just started book 2 and it's definitely more challenging but he's doing great.

We had to run across town this week so we made a morning of it and played at the park and packed picnic lunches.

We finished up our apple study by recreating street scenes from our book, doing a salt evaporation experiment and learning the parts and life cycle of an apple.

We finished our 2nd science lesson by attaching pictures of the animals we studied to the map.  It's a adds a little bit of geography to our science!

Week 3

Gymnastics started up this week so that was a fun break in our week.

Samuel drew a picture of the two of us on the math book he made.

We made mummies this week!  This was a lot of fun for everyone!!

Our Homeschool association had a STEM event we got to attend.  There was a "road show" and then exhibits.  I think everyone had a good time!

Nathan and I started reading "How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World" and using it for different activities.  We discussed the different funny parts of the book, like when she takes the whole chicken or cow for the recipe (instead of the egg or butter).  I also mentioned that it was funny when the author said to not wake the leopard sleeping by the kurundu tree (to make cinnamon).  Nathan said, "No, actually, that was pretty serious." Ha ha ha!  He's funny.  So, one thing we did was make these treats to look like apples:

We also visited the apple orchard!!

Week 2

This was a busy 2nd week because we went swimming almost every day at lunch.  The kids enjoyed the break in the day!

Nathan playing Bingo with letter sounds, using fruit snacks:

Nathan and I played memory in math with finger cards.

Samuel wanted to do his math under the table to be near the cat.  :)

Hunter and Lily were sorting M&Ms for a math experiment on camouflage and the cat sat on the pile of yellow candies.  Ha ha!  The kids ate them after the experiment anyway.

Nathan read out of this book this week! He sounds everything out so it takes time but he's doing well!

Hunter is working on reading and spelling contractions.  He's not thrilled with it but he's doing well!!

No other pictures--I'll have to do better!
