Week 29

History: We studied about the landing on the moon--you can watch/listen to it online!  That was fun.  We also learned about Ronald Reagan.  We have one more history lesson before our curriculum is done!!

Science: We did some experiments with yeast this week!

Nathan working hard on math:

We took a day off so we could spend Spring Break time with family.

I planned a fun Friday involving Go Fish with the whole crew!

On Sunday, we went to a rock and mineral show.  They had a cast of a t-rex skull there!

Week 28

A full week of school!  Monday, Lily finished her last class at the homeschool building.

For art, we made some fun transfer pictures.  It was kind of like having a carbon copy of something.

In history, we started learning about the Cold War so the kids were filling in mapwork:

Mushroom time for science!  The kids were learning about the parts of a mushroom and had their own mushroom to inspect.  We drew it and labeled parts, painted with it and dissected it!  It made me not want to eat mushrooms again.

Samuel joined Nathan and I for math one day because the lesson plan said to play addition bingo!  It was fun.

Samuel graduated from Book 4 of Barton.  This is notoriously the hardest, longest book and he breezed it through it!!!  It took time but I think reading and spelling is clicking with him.

Checking in with Lily on the weekend.  Watching Netflix, coloring on her phone and the cat close by....this is her normal.  :)

Most schools have spring break next week but not us!  We are pushing through because our break is coming up the next week.

Week 27

Another week of school done!  It's flying!!

Science:  We worked on classifying objects as a review.  We also watched a video of pond life and worked on our kingdoms booklet.

In history, we saw the coolest animation about the history of flying.  The kids made paper airplanes and we learned a bit more about a few key figures.  We only have about 4 history lessons left so we'll have to fill in with some projects!!

We started Bible out this week playing a game that the kids LOVED.  It was a hit.  It was reminiscent of a game we played at the roller skating rink.  We had to repeat it a lot.  We're learning about the important questions to ask while reading a passage of the Bible.

We had some outings this week.  On Monday, the kids all had physicals.  On Tuesday, we drove to do some shopping and have dessert.  :)

Getting a shot is hard work!

Napping with the cat:

Brian had a Saturday off for the 1st time in awhile.  He helped with some spring cleaning, took us out to supper and then had me snap a pic so he could shave his beard.  He looks like a different person!  Yes, this is the best pic I can get of those younger two.

Week 26

Some days it is hard to get homeschool started.  There are 3 sleeping children in this picture.  They had already gotten up and had breakfast but fell asleep after that.  Ha!

We watched a cartoon about a missionary named Gladys Aylward this week.  We also watched a cartoon about bacteria this week!  We were able to get new agar plates and repeat our experiment so we'll check on them next week.

Friday, we traveled to the Science Center of Iowa.  It was a fun break from regular school and the kids had fun!

3 more weeks until our spring break!!  We're flying through history and making good progress on other subjects.  We'll be able to end before June so that's good news!  I've liked most of our curriculum this year so picking items for next year shouldn't be that difficult.
