Speedy

This week was seriously so fast that it seemed a blur.  We did have a sick child this week--Samuel missed gymnastics because he had a stomach bug.  Thankfully, it was just a quick bug and everyone else has stayed healthy.  We are not taking spring break yet but it seems like everyone else is so it seems weird.  We just keep trucking!  I did start a new board on Pinterest for next year's curriculum ideas.  Fun, fun!!

We started our last chapter of science this week!!  How quickly that went!  We finished the science book but we plan on spending a bit more time on planets.  This week, we read our chapter, got our solar system TAG book out and hung our planets up.

We learned about Kenya this week and made Masai collar necklaces for a souvenir.

We also started our last artist study (Leonardo da Vinci) so that's winding down and the twins are finishing up their cursive books.  Otherwise, we are making forward progress on all other subjects.  I recently picked a book to read with Samuel, as I point at the word.  The book choice was easy--it was supposed to be something he was interested in so I picked up "Dick and Jane and the Vampire".  Ha ha ha!!  Yes, that's an actual book!!!  So, we've enjoyed reading.

Hunter and Lily were thrilled to have a maze to work on this week--I had no idea they would react so well!  So, I'll have to keep that in mind.  It was just a maze to complete while I stared our reading on Saul/Paul.  In English, they completed a formal thank you letter.  I let them pick the who/what and they wrote that out nicely.

One more week until spring break!

Keeping Busy

Sometimes we do school in different places...like this cage?!

Or this fort...

We did a little bowling this week to practice our subtraction skills.  This did incite a fight between the 2 youngest boys but it all worked out.  :)

Some bead crafting after our week learning about South Africa.

This is kind of hard to see but this is the completed Gospel outlines from the Grapevine Bible study curriculum.  This was a freebie and we tried it out and found it was a hit!  So, we may look into this curriculum for next school year.

We finally got to do our Oreo moon phase activity.  Fun!

A big excitement of the week was our snowstorm.  It wasn't horrible but dropped enough snow that it was exciting for this household.  Brian stayed home and taught Kindergarten--always thrilling for Samuel!!

We also made snow ice cream for the 1st time.  This was pretty exciting for Nathan since he LOVES to eat snow.  All the kids thought it was yummy.

The last excitement of the week was getting our new furniture!!  We needed a new couch and it's the 1st time Brian and I have bought NEW so it was a milestone.  The kids are barely allowed to sit on it.  Ha!

Ending February

This week went so fast that it was a blur.  I have no idea why it felt that way but at least it didn't drag on.  We did some painting this week.  The 2 younger ones did regular painting and the 2 older ones worked under the table--it was an attempt at painting in a similar fashion as Michelangelo when he worked on the Sistine Chapel.  It was really interesting to learn more about this artist--and the kids were thrilled because it was the same name as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.  Ha!

We studied Argentina this week and our Little Passports package gave us a dinosaur fossil to uncover.  Apparently, many dinosaur fossils are discovered in Argentina--interesting, huh?  Hunter and Lily didn't mind taking turns but I finally broke it apart by hand since it was getting tiresome.  Definitely a fun activity, though!

Samuel learned about subtraction this week.  I found this idea somewhere on the internet but I can't retrace my steps to find it.  Anyway, we had a shipwreck with Samuel's Webkinz and we practiced booting some of them off the ship to make subtraction problems.  He played with this for quite awhile!

Moving on to March!!
