Week 21

Another week of school done but we did take a snow day this week!  The winter weather has been crazy!
This week, we had a lot going on in science.  We used the microscope to look at a pre-made slide and then we put a piece of my hair under to examine.  They thought it looked gross.  :)

We made a big Venn diagram of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.  We are starting to learn about organelles.

Chore time after school:

We had Friday off for my birthday!!  Back to school Monday!

Week 20

In science, we started a lesson on microscopes.  The lesson started with a video that was made in 1977 so that was funny but Samuel actually asked to see it again.  Ha!  It was learning about the power of 10, going away from a person's hand and then going into the hand to see what makes it up.

We traced our own hands and added details.

In history, the boys completed an ice challenge.  Lily wasn't feeling well this day so the boys did it on their own.  We were learning about the Battle of Trenton when many soldiers marched 9 hours in the snow without shoes!  After school ended, the boys created their own challenge in the freezing air to see who could last without a coat.  Ha!

Nathan also had a day of illness.  He took a nap and felt like himself again.  Hunter is working on illustrating the battle we learned about:

Lily working on her assignment notebook.  History is divided into sections so she always has extra reading to do!  Here she was also listing the details of the battle and marking the path on the map:

Even with sick days and snow storms, we got plenty accomplished this week!  A couple short weeks coming up as the twins wrap up their class and we take off for birthdays!

Week 19

We started school back up for real!  Mondays are classes for the twins so our week is really 4 days long so we're making the most of it.

In science, we started a Kingdoms and Classifications unit.  It's a complicated unit but it's been fun so far.  The kids are classifying buttons here:

The twins went outside for their living vs. non-living organism hunt.  The other 2 kids chose the inside option.

Art projects starting back up...

Spelling away:

Samuel is trying to warm up after "recess" time.  He requested recess so I've had them go outside every day but he was freezing!!!  Haha!

Nathan reading the book Aunt Andrea got him.  He said "I got this for my birthday so I HAVE to read it."

Our new Bible unit is how to study the Bible so everyone had to get their Bible out.  We had enough to go around and the kids seemed to enjoy the 1st lesson of finding the Table of Contents.  :)

A review in history means we play the game that came with it.  One of the lessons this week assigned the kids a name (they each had 3 names, actually) and we found out what happened to that person after signing the Declaration of Independence.  Most were not happy endings!

Friday is science for the twins because the lessons have an extension for high school kids.  They had to research some vocab and then list the complete taxonomy of a chosen animal.  Hunter chose a frogfish and Lily chose a black widow spider.  I don't know why--I would've chosen a cat!  Ha!

This weekened, we had our 1st snowfall since before Thanksgiving!!  It was awesome.

Week 18

Back to school!  We eased in on Thursday with a vision board project, starting our new read aloud and reviewing math and reading.

Finished vision boards.  Don't worry--the guns refer to a Fortnite goal.  :)

Lunch breaks are for naps when we are back to getting up early!!

A full week ahead so that could be tough for us--early mornings and full days of school!  Our science unit we'll be starting is a little more complex and full of info so that will be fun.  The twins start classes at the homeschool building so Mondays will be out of the house for awhile.

Christmas Break + Nathan's Birthday

We had a great break!!  We enjoyed some special Christmas lights:

We made gingerbread houses:

Of course, we enjoyed Christmas Day!!!

Our big lunch is always one of my favorite parts of the day:

Family Christmas time:

After Christmas wrapped up, we celebrated Nathan turning 9!!!  He's such a funny, easy going guy and we are so glad we got to spend the day doing what he wanted!

We then rang in the New Year and now we're wrapping up vacation to get ready for school again!!
