Week 10

Nathan finished up his study using Mike Mulligan with some fun crafts:

And decorating a cake...the tractor was the best thing I had for a steam shovel and he cut out the square, just like Mary Ann in the book:

A science demo, using senses other than sight to find prey and stay away from a predator!

We also carved pumpkins for Halloween:

MHSAP classes started this week.  Nathan and Hunter are in a Lego class and then Hunter goes to South American Art with Lily.  Samuel, Lily and I kept busy in the library and then Nathan, Samuel and I went to a park but it was freezing!!!

Making Joseph's colorful coat:

Nathan's experiment on the power of gas:

We watched my niece this week on her day off of school so she joined in ours.  We actually did a fun Halloween science experiment but I was not successful in getting pictures.  We made ghosts fly using film canisters, water and alka selzer tablets.  They really flew!!

The BIG news is that Hunter finished book 3 of Barton!!  He had been doing this level for quite awhile because it's a lot of memory work but he passed his post test!  On to book 4!

We have Monday off for Halloween so back to school in November!

Week 9

On Monday we took our annual trip to Bloomsbury Farm.  It's always a fun afternoon with a ton of things for the kids to do!

These two checked out this covered wagon while Brian took the other two to the haunted houses.

Everyone liked the pig but we had just read a little about pigs so that could be why.  There were also cows, donkeys, goats, turkeys, chickens, ducks and sheep for the kids to try and pet.  :)

Mining for gold:

Also this week, Nathan started learning some digraphs in reading, like /th/ and /sh/.  He complains about reading but I think he's doing really well.

Samuel wanted to be handcuffed to me before starting his handwriting:

Nathan doing some math-- discovering the pattern of odds and evens:

We started a unit on Mike Mulligan this week.  There is a movie of the book on youtube but there was quite a bit of singing and he wasn't impressed!  This is the 1st book he's really liked, though!!

We finished our read aloud (Mrs. Frisby and the Secrets of NIMH) so we watched the old cartoon, which I remember from when I was a kid.  The book isn't scary at all but the movie is a little creepy.

We did some fun science to end our week--made ghosts fly!  This was using an empty tea bag and we discussed why the ghost flew but Lily had guessed why!  Good for her!

Week 8

This post is late so my memory of last week is not what it could be.  :)

Nathan started learning about evens and odds in math:

Samuel started learning more about shapes:

Hunter finished his first typing course!!

We read about Stonehenge this week so ventured out the yard to try and put rocks in a perfect circle!

Week 7

This week, Samuel stayed with my parents but made it home for schoolwork each day!  He was introduced to the calculator this week so that was pretty fun for him.  :)

Nathan wore his mask for quite a bit of school this week.  :)  He loves using the little chalkboard to practice his letters.

Working on our timeline book:

We finally made it to a family swim!  It was a learning experience but everyone had a good time!

Attempting to make fossils but they didn't turn out.  Oh well!

Week 6

We finished up with Lentil  this week by drawing with charcoal and making a flag:

Samuel enjoyed doing math this week.  Also, I had him practice making all the letters the right direction before math and he ended up writing them all correctly during math.  That was a victory!

A trip to Target is always a welcome break in our homeschool week!  No Samuel in this picture because he's staying with my parents for a week!!
