Field Trip!

Nathan learned about K for King this week.  He was pretty fond of his crown.  :)

Making a castle out of shapes:

Stamping the letter K:

Samuel had a great week!!!  He did all of his work happily and without grumbling.  It was a really good week with him!  He also lost a tooth this week--his 1st one so that was exciting!

The twins worked on bracelets one day after school:

Hunter and Lily enjoying Vivaldi's Winter music, maybe somewhat sarcastically with their pretend violins:

Lily, looking sylish:

We made Egyptian pottery this week:

We also pounded rocks together to see where soil comes from:

We had a field trip this week!!  We headed downtown and my Dad met up with us for a few minutes--I tried to get a picture of the snow but it just looks wet...

We then toured the new public library and it was a lot of fun.  The kids enjoyed the rooftop seating, even if it was yucky out:

Nathan enjoyed climbing in the children's section:

The next day, we had to take a trip to our doctor's office for me...the kids were all well behaved as we waited:

Week 9

This week, Nathan learned about "r for rocks" so we all went outside to pick a rock to paint.  It was something Nathan and I were doing and suddenly all the kids were joining us, which was fine.  Apparently, painting rocks is a huge draw for them!!  :)

Samuel had some rough days and we were thankful Brian was there to work with him one day this week.  I'm still figuring out what works best and he's still learning that this time is non-negotiable.  :)

We enjoyed a pajama day one cold morning.  I love this weather!  The twins are coloring their Egyptian page.  We learned some interesting tidbits about Ancient Egypt and started reading about Joseph.  We watched the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the end of the week.

Nathan enjoyed helping me make play dough--tried for black but it's kinda purplish gray.  This keeps all the boys busy during the day.  Lily doesn't play with it as much but she has been engrossed in her book series--she's on book 6 of the Frog Princess series by E.D. Baker and just loving it!!

A pretty normal, uneventful week.  We won't complain about that!!

One More Week

I just discovered my usual source for cute blog backgrounds is no longer offering them for free so I've spent all morning figuring out how to change my blog using a new source.  So, anything I had to say about this week is forgotten...  Then, I start adding pictures and see how many I got of Nathan AGAIN and not as many as the big kids.  It's hard to remember!  Plus, a lot of Nathan's work is crafty.

Nathan finished up I for insect.  Here he is with his caterpillar turned butterfly:

We then moved on to Q for quail:

Painting with Q-tips:

Moving "quail eggs" with tweezers: *It looks like we did this in one day but he was just wearing the same pajama shirt a couple days...*

Samuel and I used a lot of different math manipulatives to work on addition this week.  The animal blocks are always a hit.

He's working on writing his name but he keeps wanting to add lines to make his 'S' a dollar sign.  *insert eye roll*  I have no idea why.

We had a restaurant day for math.  We used pennies instead of dollars, in case you catch that.  He enjoyed this a lot.

We made ooey monster cookies this week and the little boys helped me add the candy eyeballs.  :)

The twins had a full week learning about Egyptian painting and drawing.

Samuel has been spending some time focusing on the sounds he has a hard time remembering for phonics.  We do a story and actions and then I give him a coloring sheet.  Well, nothing with Samuel is ever cut and dried.  Every single thing he does involves an elaborate story with drawings to go with it.  He has a great imagination but it does drag things out a bit.  However, I try to be patient with it and give him free reign of his creativity.  I videotaped him one day...I gave him his sheet to color and this unfolded:

Sick Week

It was a rough week for us this week as we dealt with illnesses.  I'm not sure I can remember what all went on but I'll try.

Nathan studied 'I for insects' but only had 3 days of school instead of 4.  We'll make that up next week just because there's a fun craft involved.

Samuel started addition this week and kept up with his phonics lessons but woke up sick on Friday so he had a day off.

Hunter and Lily got Friday off, as well.  Earlier in the week we did some water/air experiments:

They also wrote their name in hieroglyphics:

Hoping for a full week of work this week as everyone recovers!!
