We only had 2 days of school this week because of Thanksgiving break. Our egg osmosis experiment finally wrapped up! Our read aloud is getting pretty suspenseful. We’re ending break with a snowstorm so that’s exciting!!

Week 13

This week, Nathan finished his dragon art class. We started a lengthy science project about egg osmosis, which we have to continue through the weekend. Nathan read another short story and liked this one better. He also started a quick story about his favorite Thanksgiving memory so I’m excited to read that! We just have 2 days of school next week and then get to enjoy a break!

Week 12

This week was shorter due to the twins’ birthday. We celebrated Lily at lunch and Hunter at supper. We were able to get them together after supper to open cards.

For school, we’re enjoying the new read aloud but we’re not sure what’s going to happen!! Nathan had dragon art class again and has one left. He read another short story for literature but wasn’t impressed! We’re counting down to Thanksgiving break now!

Week 11

We finished up our pH lesson in Biology and started on cells, which is always a great lesson because of the fun projects you can add. We started our new read aloud so it’s early days with that and we aren’t sure where it’s going yet.

Week 10

This was a busy week! Nathan had his art class at the homeschool building on Monday. He made a stop motion video for our history project. We finished our read aloud and Nathan gave it 4.5/5 stars! Of course, it was Halloween week, too! Nathan got Friday off as a school holiday!! The boys carved pumpkins and had plenty of candy!!

Week 9

This week we finished up our protein lesson in biology. Our experiment involved jello, fresh pineapple, canned pineapple and meat tenderizer. It was successful! Nathan started writing his story and I’m excited to read it but he has some self-editing to do first.

Saturday, October 18, 2025

Week 8

I didn’t get pictures of school again!! The days are just busy, I guess. Sam took this one when they walked to a pizza place with a friend. We did start a fun writing project this week. Nathan has to pick a horror cliche and then write a story about the opposite of that cliche. I’m excited to see what he comes up with for his story!

Saturday, October 11, 2025

Week 7

We didn’t manage to get pictures this week. We pretty much just kept on with our work. Nathan did finish his short story and he actually enjoyed this one! We have one more week before Nathan starts a class at the homeschool building so we’ll have a loaded week ahead!

Saturday, October 4, 2025

Week 6

This week, we did a lipid experiment for biology. We read about the Titanic in history so for art, he followed a video to draw the ship. We had our first field trip this week! We did our annual visit to Bloomsbury. It was very hot and we didn’t spend a lot of time there but it was fun.

Week 5

This week we had a few days of school and then took a fall break. Nathan stayed with my parents while Brian and I traveled to Wisconsin . It was a fun time and a nice break. Back to school on Monday!!

Saturday, September 20, 2025

Week 4

This week, we tested different kitchen items for amylose using iodine. It was a fun and successful lab!

Nathan finished his first literature unit and I think it’s still his least favorite subject! I am enjoying the curriculum so I hope he likes it more as we keep going!

Saturday, September 13, 2025

Week 3

This week, our science lab had us roasting marshmallows as an example of carbon. Nathan also discovered that the marshmallows tasted like the candle. Haha! He also started his art project, which will eventually be a sailboat. It was a good week and we got a lot done!

Saturday, September 6, 2025

Week 2

Sadly, no pictures this week. It was a short week so we crammed as much in as possible. Science was a fun one this week with the periodic table of elements. The text explained things so clearly—it’s a good fit! Nathan doesn’t seem to love his literature—I’m not sure if it’s the Sherlock story or the questions involved. Otherwise, it’s going well—a good start!

New School Year

Our new school year started this week with only one student!!  Nathan is a sophomore this year.  We started easy with just a run through of things, lunch out and then a couple games that were a part of his curriculum.  We then had a few days of getting into the work.  It’s a lot of work for him independently but he did great.  I’ll add a rundown of his subjects below.  I’m looking forward to have this time with my quietest, youngest child!!

Subjects: History plus presidents, Biology, Bible study (book of Mark right now), Copywork for spelling, Daily art journal, Literature study (Sherlock Holmes short story is his 1st reading), Math, Spanish, Writing book (which involves drawing), Daily Grammar and our Read Aloud.

Our first book for read aloud is “Impossible Creatures” !!

We had 3 days of school to wrap up the year. We finished history and read aloud. They got to an ending point in math. Nathan picked Julius Caesar as his top Shakespeare read for the year. They finished their writing paper. It was a full 3 days! I gave them end of the year gifts—and used Christmas bags bc I wasn’t buying new ones—and we had a fun dinner out. Next up is graduation!!

Week 36

This year’s final art project was completed this week. We used actual flowers and leaves to decorate the paper and then drew a greenhouse around the dried paint.

We also finished our science and grammar texts. We have a few days of school left, a meeting with our supervising teacher and then a graduation party to prepare!

Week 35

Lily had a fun write up for her job this week so I have to share that even if it’s not homeschool related!!

We are focused on finishing up things for school. We did begin our final art project but that will get wrapped up this week. We are learning history that happened when I was in high school so they think that’s pretty funny. 8 days left!!

Sunday, May 4, 2025

Week 34

This week was a short one because we had a day off for Brian’s birthday and then 2 days off for an early anniversary trip!

Now we are in May and we’re down to 2.5 weeks of school!!! We have a lot to finish up and prepare for graduation!!

Week 32

This week, we finished our black out poetry art project and our solar system model. We are making good progress in all other subjects. We had a short week for Good Friday and will be back to school on Tuesday after Easter. The weeks are winding down and graduation to do lists are starting!!

Saturday, April 12, 2025

Week 31

This week, we started an art project that will wrap up next week. We had our visit with our supervising teacher and scheduled our final one before graduation! We finished our study of the planets but our model has Pluto as an optional addition so we’ll get that done next week.

Saturday, April 5, 2025

Week 30

This week we had a successful science project! We also finished the reading on our final planet! Nathan finished Romeo and Juliet so he has one more Shakespeare story left. We are starting the study of WW2 and enjoying reading about Takashi Nagai. We’re keeping busy as the end of the year is in sight!! Not school related, Oliver hurt his leg and we’ve been trying to get him to rest more so Nathan covered him up.

Saturday, March 29, 2025

Week 29

Back to school this week! We’ve started a new read aloud about someone that loved through the atomic bombing. This coincides with history as we start learning about WW2.

We’re wrapping up Uranus in science and will start our last planet before we build our model! Things are finishing up, it seems. We also started our last chapter in Bible.

I’ll try to get pictures next week!!

Saturday, March 22, 2025

Week 28

This school year is flying by and graduation is quickly approaching!! We had a couple days of school this week and then had a short spring break. More updates next week!!

Saturday, March 15, 2025

Week 27

We started our week with a field trip! It was a fun day away. We then got back to work! We finished up Saturn and are learning about WW1. We finished our read aloud and will start the next one after a short spring break next week. We aren’t taking the whole week but Sam insists he needs something. 😆

Sunday, March 9, 2025

Week 26

This week, we finished our art project.  They look great!  We also did a science experiment about storms as we wrapped up Jupiter.  Samuel did some math review while he waited for his next math book.  We watched a video about Ash Wednesday and Lent for Bible.  We continued with everything else!  It’s hard to believe we are moving towards the last months of the school year.  Next week starts out with a field trip so that will be exciting!!

Week 25

Cinders has had quite a week after a scary fall, X-rays and trying to keep her still with pain meds. Nathan sent me this picture of her cuddling with after a round of meds. She gets very sleepy!

We ended up with a shorter week than planned bc illness has hit the house! Samuel was feverish and Nathan’s cough was ramping up so we took Friday off for rest. Now I’m getting the cold but I’m hoping for school to resume on Monday!

Samuel finished his math this past week so he’ll be starting a book about math for everyday life. Nathan is reading Romeo and Juliet in his Shakespeare graphic novel. We made more progress on art but we haven’t finished the project yet. We’ll be wrapping up Jupiter in science next week!

Saturday, February 22, 2025

Week 24

This week was more of a normal one for a change! We did a worksheet reviewing the phases of the moon and then built the phases with Oreos. We are moving on to Jupiter next! We also read about Napoleon in history and Einstein for our next writing assignment. They are using 3 sources with multiple topics to write about just one of those topics. They chose different things so it’ll be interesting to read them!

Week 23

This was a short week of school for us! We had a short day on Monday and then a snow day on Wednesday! We always take the 1st snow day off with regular schools because it’s so exciting! Otherwise, we got as much done as we could on the remaining days. Friday was Valentine’s Day and Oliver’s 3rd birthday! We had a full day of school but celebrated both events over supper.

Monday, February 10, 2025

Week 22

This week was short because we had Monday off for Samuel’s birthday and a half day on Friday because I was getting ready for a retreat. We are taking a break from planets and studying the moon in science. Nathan has been working on some different math curriculum to see if that’s a better fit. We are still enjoying our new read aloud! For writing, the boys worked on writing while using multiple sources. It was not as much fun as the previous lesson but they got through it!

Saturday, February 1, 2025

Week 21

We had a fun science experiment this week! We learned about the rock abrasion tool they use for Martian rock samples. We mimicked that with chunky cookies, 2 sugar colors, pencils and toothpicks. We got to eat the rest of the cookies so it was a win!

We started a new read aloud and it s already a hit! It entitled “Flora and Ulysses”. The boys also worked on a map for art, a paper on Nikola Tesla and listened to a lot of info on absolutism. We also had a visit from our supervising teacher. It was a full week!! We do not have school Monday bc of Sam’s bday on Sunday so we’ll enjoy the long weekend.

Friday, January 24, 2025

Week 20

We were all business this week. I didn’t even take pictures. We finished up our read aloud so we’ll start a new book next week. We’re still learning about Mars but we should wrap that up next week. History has been slow moving so I’ll see what we can condense to get ahead a bit. The boys got their final drafts of their message in a bottle story done and they were both so good!! A change may be coming for Nathan’s math but I’m still researching options. Otherwise, we kept busy and took off Friday for my bday (early).

Week 19

A busy week this week! The boys made a yeast bread for supper one night. They did the classic earth layer model with play dough. We’ve done it before but it’s simple and easy to label. We’re moving on to Mars next. On Friday, I let them skip their math lesson in exchange for playing Yahtzee with me!
