Last Week of School
Our last week of school!! Now that it is over, the year seemed to fly by!! This week, the kids worked solely on typing because the younger two had finished their handwriting books. The twins had finished their books much earlier in the year but they won't be doing any more handwriting books.
We had finished our History curriculum and I didn't schedule any art/Bible/PE this week so it was mainly science and a read aloud for our morning work. In science, the kids worked on finishing up their cover page, report and bibliography. They then presented their report to everyone else. They hate doing this, even though it's just us.
Samuel's report was on reindeer.
Lily's report was on scarabs.
Nathan's report was on pterodactyls.
Hunter's report was on wolves.
It's hard to believe these two are sophomores now. I think they'll find next year a lot busier but this was a good year to figure out homeschooling high school!
I gave all the kids a book for summer reading. Nathan got started right away on his!
Happy Summer Break!

Week 37
We finished our Walt Disney unit with a couple fun activities. The kids all had to create their own character with strengths, weaknesses, a foe, setting, etc. I took notes so I'd remember who created what!
Samuel created "Mr. Derp" with a weakness of social phobia.
Nathan created "Butter Man" with a sidekick named "Salt Man" and an enemy named "Container Man".
Lily created "The Lamp" with a partner named "Fiona Flashlight" and a foe named "Lassie Lightning".
Hunter's character was all very secret-spy with an unknown name and location.
Our last activity was to watch Snow White because we learned about how important that movie was to Walt Disney.
We ended our week with a field trip to a buffalo farm. The owners were very knowledgeable and the buffalo were eager to be fed!!
One more week!!

Week 36
We had another pretty full week of school.
Nathan working on time:
Nathan ended up with a sick day this week. He had a fever and a cough but bounced back pretty quickly.
Handwriting with nerf guns:
Morning TV is why these two get up most mornings...ha!
Mother's Day! Such a fun day every year!!
2 more weeks of school. We are busy finishing things up and getting ready for summer fun!

Week 35
This week started off with No School!! Brian had his birthday and took off work so we spent the day with him.
We had school the rest of the week, however, Thursday was a shortened day. Our supervising teacher visited and then we did the homeschool jump again. Otherwise, we got lots done and yet I have almost no pics. The only ones I got were of art. We watched a youtube how to draw video. Samuel doesn't have a picture because he crossed his out.
Nathan's:
Hunter's:
Lily's:
I'll try to take more pictures to remember what we're doing this week. This is a full week of school and I am hoping it's productive. We're nearing the end!

Week 34
Our week started with Easter! They had a fun day hunting eggs and playing with cousins.
We took a day off Monday to recuperate. Tuesday was busy with dental appointments so we didn't get much done that day, either. Finally, on Wednesday, things were back to normal. We started our new histroy unit study on Walt Disney. The kids made a flip book and watched a video on the history of animation, which actually interested them a lot.
We also started our science project but that mainly involved finding resources. I was resting my knee so we put a bunch of books on hold instead of going to the library. Otherwise, things were on schedule and we got plenty done in our short week! It's a short week next week because of Brian's birthday so we're getting spoiled. :)

Week 33
This week, we took a time out from regular history and studied the Easter story in preparation of the weekend.
We worked on vocabulary and comprehension. Here the kids are putting the Easter story cards in order:
Nathan was doing this at the time...ha! I had given him allergy medicine and he promptly zonked out.
We also finished our read aloud on Corrie ten Boom's life and I loved it even though it was pretty sad. Our next read aloud is a lot lighter in tone. For science, we wrapped up out Kingdoms & Classifications unit but we are starting a project that will take us to the end of the year.
Dyeing eggs:
Nathan loves it when the cat chooses his lap during family movie time. :)
Happy Easter!

Week 32
Our week started out with super nice weather. We spent some time working on our nature journals:
Then, we had PE and played a few rounds of Tag:
In the evening, we visited a park and that was the end of the really nice weather for the week!
Creating a coat of arms to wrap up our week learning more about castles and the Middle Ages:
Trying to take the shell off an M&M for science (M&M:chocolate chip :: crab:worm)
More nodding off during read aloud. This guy was super tired this day and I was sure he was getting sick but he was fine after napping for a long while!
Nathan has started his review of math concepts before his assessment (in his curriculum, nothing formal) so we're reviewing some topics he was forgetful on. I found minecraft greater/less than pieces to practice with.
Sorting animals into vertebrates vs invertebrates:
A productive week even though it was a 4 day week due to a planned field trip, which was then postponed due to weather. We have a lot of short weeks coming up as we head to summer break!!

Week 31
This week was a shorter one! We took Monday off to recuperate from "spring break" and get things in order. We had school Tuesday, Wednesday plus a half day Friday. We took Thursday off except read aloud because our supervising teacher was going to be visiting (that got canceled) and we went to the homeschool jump.
Learning about vascular vs. nonvascular plants:
Lily wasn't feeling well that day and slept through morning school. She perked up later and got her work done, plus vacuumed! What a trooper!
The only pic I got of homeschool jump. All 4 together and no random kids in the picture! :) They had a great time and we'll definitely attend again.

Week 30
We started Spring break this week! We did have school for a couple days. We actually finished our History curriculum! We will continue to play the game that came with it and then may add some fun history learning.
The twins had their last Spanish assignment this week! They had to translate words but they were able to use their worksheets and index cards to help. We will not be continuing Spanish!
On Wednesday, we dropped the kids off with my parents and took off for Missouri. We went to the Great Homeschool Convention for the 1st time and we had a great time! We took time off to visit the St. Louis Zoo one day. We didn't stay long and it was pretty exhausting but fun!
We got back Saturday, ran around getting groceries and crashed early. Sunday, we got the kids back and they had had a fun break, too. Nathan was especially happy to be home with me! He hung out with me all day and took a 2 hour nap. :)
Today, Monday, is the last day of Spring Break so we're back at it tomorrow. Only 2 more months of school!!
