Week 30

This week we had a successful science project! We also finished the reading on our final planet! Nathan finished Romeo and Juliet so he has one more Shakespeare story left. We are starting the study of WW2 and enjoying reading about Takashi Nagai. We’re keeping busy as the end of the year is in sight!! Not school related, Oliver hurt his leg and we’ve been trying to get him to rest more so Nathan covered him up.

Week 29

Back to school this week! We’ve started a new read aloud about someone that loved through the atomic bombing. This coincides with history as we start learning about WW2.

We’re wrapping up Uranus in science and will start our last planet before we build our model! Things are finishing up, it seems. We also started our last chapter in Bible.

I’ll try to get pictures next week!!

Week 26

This week, we finished our art project.  They look great!  We also did a science experiment about storms as we wrapped up Jupiter.  Samuel did some math review while he waited for his next math book.  We watched a video about Ash Wednesday and Lent for Bible.  We continued with everything else!  It’s hard to believe we are moving towards the last months of the school year.  Next week starts out with a field trip so that will be exciting!!

Week 25

Cinders has had quite a week after a scary fall, X-rays and trying to keep her still with pain meds. Nathan sent me this picture of her cuddling with after a round of meds. She gets very sleepy!

We ended up with a shorter week than planned bc illness has hit the house! Samuel was feverish and Nathan’s cough was ramping up so we took Friday off for rest. Now I’m getting the cold but I’m hoping for school to resume on Monday!

Samuel finished his math this past week so he’ll be starting a book about math for everyday life. Nathan is reading Romeo and Juliet in his Shakespeare graphic novel. We made more progress on art but we haven’t finished the project yet. We’ll be wrapping up Jupiter in science next week!

Week 24

This week was more of a normal one for a change! We did a worksheet reviewing the phases of the moon and then built the phases with Oreos. We are moving on to Jupiter next! We also read about Napoleon in history and Einstein for our next writing assignment. They are using 3 sources with multiple topics to write about just one of those topics. They chose different things so it’ll be interesting to read them!

Week 23

This was a short week of school for us! We had a short day on Monday and then a snow day on Wednesday! We always take the 1st snow day off with regular schools because it’s so exciting! Otherwise, we got as much done as we could on the remaining days. Friday was Valentine’s Day and Oliver’s 3rd birthday! We had a full day of school but celebrated both events over supper.

Week 22

This week was short because we had Monday off for Samuel’s birthday and a half day on Friday because I was getting ready for a retreat. We are taking a break from planets and studying the moon in science. Nathan has been working on some different math curriculum to see if that’s a better fit. We are still enjoying our new read aloud! For writing, the boys worked on writing while using multiple sources. It was not as much fun as the previous lesson but they got through it!

Week 21

We had a fun science experiment this week! We learned about the rock abrasion tool they use for Martian rock samples. We mimicked that with chunky cookies, 2 sugar colors, pencils and toothpicks. We got to eat the rest of the cookies so it was a win!

We started a new read aloud and it s already a hit! It entitled “Flora and Ulysses”. The boys also worked on a map for art, a paper on Nikola Tesla and listened to a lot of info on absolutism. We also had a visit from our supervising teacher. It was a full week!! We do not have school Monday bc of Sam’s bday on Sunday so we’ll enjoy the long weekend.

Week 20

We were all business this week. I didn’t even take pictures. We finished up our read aloud so we’ll start a new book next week. We’re still learning about Mars but we should wrap that up next week. History has been slow moving so I’ll see what we can condense to get ahead a bit. The boys got their final drafts of their message in a bottle story done and they were both so good!! A change may be coming for Nathan’s math but I’m still researching options. Otherwise, we kept busy and took off Friday for my bday (early).

Week 19

A busy week this week! The boys made a yeast bread for supper one night. They did the classic earth layer model with play dough. We’ve done it before but it’s simple and easy to label. We’re moving on to Mars next. On Friday, I let them skip their math lesson in exchange for playing Yahtzee with me!

Back to school this week! We had a busy week, getting right back into things. We had one last science activity about Venus before moving on to Earth. We learned how radar works to visualize what can’t be seen otherwise. It was very interesting! We also did an art project and watched a video on art from the Renaissance. Busy week!

Christmas Break

We have had such a great break from school! We celebrated Christmas, New Years and Nathan’s 15th birthday!! I think all 3 of us will have a hard time getting back to school schedules but I’m sure we’ll adjust quickly!!
